Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Leader:              Please all stand.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Leader:              Please all kneel.

Divine Jesus, you have said “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you.” Behold us kneeling at your feet, filled with a lively faith and confidence, in the promises dictated by your Sacred Heart and pronounced by your adorable lips. We come to ask this favor.

Here, pause for a moment to lift up your petitions to God.

To whom can we turn to if not to you whose heart is the source of all graces and merits? Where should we seek, if not in the treasure which contains all the riches of your kindness and mercy?  Where should we knock, if not at the door through which God gives Himself to us and through which we go to God? We have opened up ourselves to your Heart of Jesus.  In you we find consolation when afflicted, protection when persecuted, strength when burdened with trials and light in doubt and darkness.

Dear Jesus, we firmly believe that you can grant us the grace we implore even though it should require a miracle. You only have to will it and our prayer will be granted.  We admit that we are most unworthy of your favors but this is not a reason for us to be discouraged.  You are the God of mercy and you will not refuse a contrite heart.

Oh Sacred Heart, whatever may be your decision with regard to our request, we will never stop adoring, loving, praising and serving you.  Lord Jesus, we plead that you accept this, our act of perfect resignation to the decrees of your adorable heart, which we sincerely desire to be fulfilled in us and all your creatures forever.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to you: to be without pity for those who are suffering and distressed. Look upon us, we beg of you, dear Jesus and grant us the grace for which we humbly implore you through the Immaculate Heart of your most sorrowful mother. You have entrusted us to her as her children and her prayers are all powerful with you.

Amen.

Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Adorable heart of Jesus, ever sensible to our misery and wretchedness to which our sins have reduced us, infinitely rich in mercy heal the wounds of our souls.  Behold us humbly prostrate before you, to express the sorrows of our hearts.

We come to make a sincere reparation and to honor your Most Sacred Majesty. It was our sins that overwhelmed your heart with bitterness. It was the weight of our iniquities that burdened you in the garden of Gethsemane and caused you pain and agony on the pillar.

But now we cast ourselves at your feet and implore forgiveness. Adorable Heart of Jesus, source of true contrition and ever merciful to the penitent sinner, impart to our hearts the spirit of penance and give to our eyes a fountain of tears that we may sincerely weep for our sins,

Pardon them O Lord in your mercy and pardon those who have committed irreverence and sacrilege against you, and thus give another proof that your mercy far surpasses all human iniquities.

Divine Jesus, with you there is mercy and fullness of redemption. Deliver us from our sins; accept our sincere desire and our resolution with the help of your grace to be faithful to you.

O compassionate Jesus, be our mediator with your Heavenly Father who we have so grievously offended. Strengthen our weakness, confirm our resolution of amendment and since your Sacred Heart is our refuge and our hope when we have sinned, so may it be our strength and pledge that nothing in life and death will ever again separate us from you.

Amen
